Sept - back to School...

The highpoint of the Health & Safety CPD year – and have only missed one year in the last seven (clash with commitments in Gulf) ; always world class speakers, always challenging exercises and case studies, always excellent networking – with senior folk from all sorts of industries and places. A chance to recharge, re-inform and come back and spread the message. And to challenge senior figures – Judith Hackitt (no longer at HSE), at odds with every court report for the last however long, still claiming that risk assessments can be short - really?

Seen the new penalty regime?? Understand some of the expediency but it does mean that businesses who might have defended their best efforts are now going to cop an early guilty plea to mitigate the fine. Whilst there continue to be big names in the court headlines, is this really going to be addressing the fly-by-nights with flagrant disregard for safety – or just hitting easy wins? I fear a speed camera situation – when was the last time you saw a police radar trap at a black spot rather than harvesting easy pickings…
