A bit of fringe CPD – how much do you know about urban gas lighting – and how is it different from the stuff we look after?

CIBSE Home Counties North West organiser Chris , Rebecca and Chris Sugg – scion of the family who dominated the gas lighting world for 150 years – took a fascinating 2 hour walk around Westminster from the Westminster Abbey to Covent Garden and the Savoy to explain, the history, variety and maintenance of the heritage lighting. (and some of the aberrations – Horseguards Parade – and electric street light 3 ft from a working gas street light – what were they thinking??)
And what about the risks of re-burnt gases from indoor gas lighting ? Apparently buidlings then “leaked like sieves” – so any competent gas engineer would have deemed their ventilation adequate…
